Artist Visit, by Miss Robinson

Today, we were very lucky to have a visit from two artists from Touchstones in Rochale. They day began with a workshop with Elmi. First, we did a free write where we had to write whatever came into our brains, followed by poem written in our pairs. After lunch, we then had a workshop with Tom. We got to look at a real piece of art from a museum and ask questions about it, before creating masks for our partners. We had to ask lots of questions like "When were you brave?" and "What do you love the most?" our work was photographed and will be displayed in Rochdale over the summer holidays!
Anglo-Saxon Trip to Tatton Park, by Miss Robinson

On Tuesday, we visited Tatton Park for an Anglo-Saxon experience day. We were transported back to the Anglo-Saxon times where we met some local village people. They were kind enough to train us on how to live like Anglo-Saxons and defend ourselves against the Vikings! We had lessons on how to create a shield wall, jewellery making to sell at the market, how to make flour from wheat and deer hunting. After all our lessons, we were able to scare away the Vikings.
The trip ended with lots of sleepy Anglo-Saxons on the coach!
Throwing and catching, by Miss Robinson

This half term, Year 4 are focusing on their throwing and catching skills. Today, we practised these skills with bean bags. We were then challenged to create out own games.
World Book Day 2025 - Everyone's Costumes!, by Mr Wood

Our school was filled with colour and creativity as staff and pupils dressed up as their favourite book characters for World Book Day! From classic literary heroes to modern favourites, the variety of costumes was truly impressive. Everyone put in a fantastic effort, bringing beloved stories to life with enthusiasm and imagination.

World Book Day 2025, by Mrs Bradley

The children had a fantastic World Book Day, inspired by the works of author Oliver Jeffers. They created some outstanding pieces of work based on Jeffers' book Stuck, and we couldn't help but wonder if Floyd, the character from the story, had visited our school after seeing what happened to our tree outside. Additionally, all the children arrived in school dressed in fantastic outfits, celebrating their love for books and creativity.

Today was our class assembly all about Hinduism. We talked about famous hindus in Britain and the different Gods and Godesses. We then acted out the story of Rama and Sita.
Making a model digestive system, by Miss Robinson

This term, we are learning all about the digestive system! We decided to create our own model of the digestive system so we could understand how it works. First, we began crunching up some crackers in a bag which acted as our mouth and teeth, we then added some water to act as our saliva. This was then passed through our oesophagus (or toilet roll) into our stomach. Our stomach was filled with lemon juice to act as our stomach acid. We then passed our mixture through some tights to act as our intestines and squeezed out all of the liquid before pushing it through two cups. We had so much fun!

This term in science, we have been focusing on teeth and digestion. We have learnt about all the different types of teeth we have, their shapes and their functions. We then tried to create a model of a set of teeth. Who do you think did the best?
Recycling session with Rochdale Council, by Miss Healey

Today we had a fantastic visitor! Nigel Goulding from Rochdale Borough Council came in to speak to Year 5 all about recycling and what we can do for the planet! We had so much fun and learnt many things about our waste and what happens to it after we're done with it. We learnt all about the small steps we can take to make our Earth happy and healthy again :)
Year 4 River Walk (Geography fieldtrip), by Miss Hirst

This morning, year 4 went on a walk through Rochdale to explore the River Roch! Both 4H and 4R spent time looking at differences between a canal and a river and we looked at the speed of the water and the direction in which it flowed. We also looked at and spoke about the flood barriers/ defences and why they are important near the Riverside building. Despite a bit of rainy weather we all enjoyed the walk and here are some pictures of our visit.
KS2 Christmas Sing-a-Long, by Miss Hulse

Today, we had a lovely winters walk to St Chad's church for christmas service. We listened to the christmas story and discussed happiness and joy. We finished with some lovely prayers written by the children.
STEM Week, by Miss Robinson

This week, we had our STEM week. As a whole school, we were trying to help Santa deliver all the presents. Year 4's experiment was to make a christmas tree glow in the dark so he knew were to put the presents. Whilst it didnt quite work how we expected, we all had lots of fun making the trees! We discussed what might have gone wrong and how we could improve it next time.
Wellbeing Ambassadors, by Mrs Brandwood

Today, our new Wellbeing Ambassadors went to their initial training session at Littleborough Sports Centre to find out all about what it takes to be a Wellbeing Ambassador. We tried lots of different activities to support our Wellbeing and Mental Health with various teams from Rochdale such as Your Trust and The School Nursing Team. We also learnt about the 5 ways to wellbeing which are: 'BE ACTIVE', 'GIVE', 'CONNECT', 'TAKE NOTICE' and 'KEEP LEARNING'. The children represented our school brilliantly and are looking forward to starting their new roles in school after Christmas!
M6 Theatre, by Miss Robinson

Today, we visted the M6 theatre on our linking project. We met up with Hopwood Primary School and met our linking buddies. During the day, we watched a performance of a Tigers Tale, ate our lunch together and then did a drama workshop! We cannot wait to see our linking buddies again.

Today, 4R and 4H joined together for a PE lesson. We were tasked with creating our own games in small groups which included a ball. We were so excited to show off our ideas.
Manchester Museum Trip, by Miss Robinson

We visited Manchester Museum to do an Ancient Egyptian Workshop. In the workshop, we were tasked with finding the most important artefact in the museum out of 18,000! We looked at lots of different artefacts and used our curator skills to choose an artefacts based on its rareity, beauty, story and material. We also got to see a real mummified body and learn all about her life. We also got to walk around the museum and look at all the different exibits from fossils and dinosaurs to animals in the natural world. After a long day, there were lots of sleepy children on the coach!
4R - Class Collective Worship 2024, by Miss Robinson

Today, 4R did a fantastic job delivering their class collective worship all about the Holy Trinity. They had lovely clear voices when saying their lines and singing our songs. Well done 4R!
Live, Love and Grow Together Day - Year 4, by Miss Hulse

St Peter's 'Live, Love and Grow Together Day' took place on Friday 12th July and is was such a fantastic day for all the children. The children in Year 4 took part in some traditional games, such as snap and Dominos. They also carried out orienteering on the school grounds, finding all of the letters that would spell out happiness. Then in the afternoon, the children made some friendship bracelets, this was such a special and memorable day for the children.
WOW Church Summer Presentation to the Diocese, by Mrs Brandwood

Our 2 WOW Church members visited St Chad's Church in Middleton to delivered a presentation, alongside our group members from St John's Thornham and Milnrow Parish Primary School, to over 40 diocese representatives. The children explained and showed the diocese the various projects we have worked on this year, set up an environmental challenge for the parishioners to complete and then sung our song, 'Rich Diversity'. Each child represented their school brilliantly and the Dean of Rochdale was so impressed with the way the children conducted themselves during the presentation. The diocese is taking on board the children’s suggestions of a Plastic Policy in every church and we look forward to next year's group where we hope to again make a difference to the environment of our churches in Rochdale.
4C Linking Visit-June 2024, by Mrs Cavill

What a lovely visit to Balderstone Library we had on Tuesday. As part of our Linking Project final phase we completed a book hunt and spent some time refelecting on our linking journey. At teh end of the visit we were each given a bookmark that was impregnated with seeds.
Many thanks to Balderstone Libraray and the staff invloved with our visit.
Big Thank yu also to parent and governor Mrs Miah for walking with us to help keep us safe.

We had a fantastic time taking part in the Rochdale Schools Linking Book Hunt! We went to visit Balderstone Library, where the children reflected on their Linking journey and worked together to make recommendations about which books best represent kindness, home, meeting new people, working together and making the world a better place.
WOW Church Meeting 17.4.24, by Mrs Brandwood

Our two WOW (Watch Our World) church representives visited St John's Thornham Church of England Primary School this afternoon for our next WOW meeting. This meeting focused on the local environment and we had a fantastic opportunity to have a visit from a Hedgehog Hospital. Here, the children learnt about the impact humas are having on hedgehogs and how we can better look after our environment for our local wildlife. The children found out a range of facts about hedgehogs and created a 'hedgehog house' (a hibernacula) to support hedgehogs in the area.
