Year 4 Visit catalyst-September 2023, by Mrs Cavill

Date: 28th Sep 2023 @ 4:43pm

On Tuesday 26th September, Year 4 visited catalyst Science and Discovery centre.

Today, we completed two workshops and had some time to explore the interactive gallery.

One workshop was called Tasty Toothpaste. We looked at the sugar content of some of the everyday things we all eat and drink. We were very surprised at how much sugar was actually in some of our drinks. We made our own toothpaste and tested it, against shop bought toothpaste. They both did a very good job

The other workshop explored proving that gas exists and that is all around us, as it is harder to observe and see it in comparison to solids and liquids.

KS2 Christmas Production, by Miss Hulse

Date: 12th Dec 2022 @ 3:43pm

KS2 performed a fantastic production of Silent Night.

Silent Night is a delightful children's nativity set in 19th century Austria, where the villagers of Oberndorf are busy preparing for their Christmas Eve pageant. Amidst the hustle and bustle, they realise that naughty mice have destroyed the church organ. How will they organise music for their special celebrations at such short notice?

Discover through this beautifully adapted story how a poem written by a parish priest resulted in the well-loved carol Silent Night.

Carol Concert, by Miss Hulse

Date: 12th Dec 2022 @ 3:40pm

The tournament also had a World Cup theme and the country we were chosen to represent was Brazil. The boys played a range of teams and all of our players were fantastic. Their determination, competitiveness and sportsmanship throughout the competitition was impeccable. Well done boys!

The children each ran 2 kilometers on a track that had been set up on Fallinge Park school field. Despite the cold and windy conditions, each pupil performed excellently and they all confidently completed the cross country run within the alloted time. Well done!

Date: 14th Sep 2022 @ 5:00pm

On Tuesday 13th September, we completed two workshops and had some time to explore the interactive gallery at the Catalyst Museum in Widnes.

One workshop was based on, "Being a Scientist". Firstly, we explored stereotypes of what a scientist looked like or did and debunked this. Afterwards we went through some areas of what a scientist does: predict, question, observe and evaluate.

The other workshop was called "Glorious Gases." This workshop looked at proving gases actually exist, even though we can't see them.  We experimented with this, even making a tiny marshmallow grow bigger!
