Today, year 6 used all of their sewing skills, that they have been learning over the last couple of weeks, to produce their final slipper design.

Today, the Year 6 children carefully explore the habitats around our school playgroud. They used their Species Activity Sheet to make a record of some of the different organisms they discovered.
Year 6 Advent Wreaths - December 2020, by Miss Hulse

Year 6 created their own Advent Wreaths.
The children thought about the colours of advent:
- Purple, symbolizing repentance and fasting. Purple is also the colour of royalty and the sovereignty of Christ, demonstrating anticipation of and reception of the coming King.
- Pink, or rose represents joy or rejoicing and reveals a shift in the season away from repentance and toward celebration.
- White is the colour of Advent representing purity and light. Christ is the sinless, spotless, pure Saviour. He is the light come into a dark and dying world.

In science, the children are looking at light, today we investigated how light travelled and used a light source and pipe cleaners to demonstrate how we see.

In D.T, Year 6 are focusing on shelters with the end goal of designing and creating their own. In order to do this, the children tested a wide range of materials so they would be able to build a shelter that is:
- Durable
- Windproof
- Waterproof

Yesterday, the children used the percussion instruments to create music that reflected verses from Psalms.

This week, Year 6 have been creating 3D models out of clay which convey movement. This was the final task in our art topic of moving figures.

This morning, Year 6 led the class worship which was based on Faith. We learnt about the story of Esther, and how it is important to have faith in God.

Today, we collected for McMillian Cancer Support, the children were very generous with bringing in their £1 donations to raise money for such a good course. The children also wrote and said prayers and created posters thinking about the wonderful work McMillan do.

For our class worship on Wedesday, we looked at 'Firm Foundations - House on the Rock' , here we shared the Bible story Matthew 7: 24-27. We looked at how the wise man had built his house using the correct foundations and thought about how we could mirror this in our lives and throughout Year 6.

6H delivered worship this morning, they introduced our new Christian value of 'justice' and share the Bible story of the righteous judge. We looked at how Jesus used justice within this year and discussed how and what we could learn from this teaching.

Yesterday, 6H were lucky enough to have a visit from a theatre company called 'Westend in Schools'. The company delivered a workshop that was based on telling a story through dance. The story 6H were given was 'Where the Wild Things are'.

When were they alive?
Where did they live?
Did they really invent the Olympics?
What can we find out about Greek Myths and Greek Gods?
How can we create our own mythical monsters?
The children created some amazing projects.

This morning, Year 6 led their 'Special Friends' in Reception to Church. The service was all about Lent and temptation, the children learnt about this though Bible readings and we discussed how we need to trust in God before getting tempted.

6H, led the Year 6 worship this morning with a focus on 'perseverance'. We listen to the story of Noah's Ark and discussed how Noah had used perseverance in his life and thought how we could take this teaching into our own.
Year 6 - The Last Supper by Simon Smith - January 2020, by Miss Hulse

Today, we worked as a group to study a piece of art work by Simon Smith showing The Last Supper. We examined key details in the picture and asked questions.
Jesus, who was Jewish, was celebrating The Passover with his disciples. They also had bread and wine. Jesus told them that the wine represents his blood and the bread represents his body and that in drinking and eating these things, they should remember him. Christians drink wine and eat bread in The Eucharist at church.

Hallé Orchestra - January 2020, by Miss Hulse

The Hallé is an English symphony orchestra based in Manchester and we were lucky enough to have a fantastic visit from them.
We were able to enjoy the wonderful music they were playing and also join in by sinning, dancing and even some children playing the instruments - an experience the children won't forget!
