Manchester United Player Led Competition, by Miss Kyte

Last week, seven Year Five and Six pupils were chosen to represent St Peters at a football tournament held by Manchester United Academy. The tournament was player led meaning that the team had to manage themselves in terms of formation, substitutions and game strategy. The tournament also had a World Cup theme and the country we were chosen to represent was Brazil. The boys played a range of teams and all of our players were fantastic. Their determination, competitiveness and sportsmanship throughout the competitition was impeccable. Well done boys! 

Cross Country Competition, by Miss Kyte

Before half term six children from Years Five and Six represented St Peters Church of England Primary School in a cross country event at Fallinge Park High school. The event consisted of lots of primary schools from the Rochdale borough and was a mix of both boys and girls races. The children each ran 2 kilometers on a track that had been set up on Fallinge Park school field. Despite the cold and windy conditions, each pupil performed excellently and they all confidently completed the cross country run within the alloted time. Well done!

In nursery we have been bringing the book 'Pete the Cat and his White Shoes' by Eric Litwin to life.  We have been acting out the story, making playdough cats, singing cat number songs, painting pictures of cats and creating a story map. We even made up own story called 'Dot the Dog and her white socks' who stepped in oranges and bananas. We talked about pets and shared pictures of our pets that live in our house.  We have had an amazing first half term in our new nursery class.

We have been very busy learning all the new rules and routines in nursery.  We have been making new friends and getting to know our new teachers, who are very proud of us!

We have had great fun harvesting our potatoes, apples and pears.  We even had to wash the very dirty potatoes, it was a very messy job, but lots of fun!  We then sold the potatoes, apples and pears to our families. We tasted some of the apples and pears, they were delicious!

We had an amazing day celebrating St. Peter’s Day in Nursery.  We all had a delicious ice-cream and sat outside to eat them.  We decorated stones, crosses and made pictures using stones.  We also designed our own stain glass windows.

Celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in Nursery, by Mrs Andrews

We have had a great time learning about the Queen and celebrating her platinum jubilee.  We made crowns, decorated bunting, had a special union jack cake and had a jubilee party on the school field.  We even re-enacted the Queen’s coronation.

Life Cycle of a Butterfly in Nursery, by Mrs Andrews

In nursery we have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.  We watched the caterpillars grow and then turn into a cocoon.  After two weeks they became butterflies.  We then fed them fruit and after a few days we released them into our butterfly garden at St. Peter's. To help us learn about the life cycle we painted caterpillars, made caterpillars with the playdough, made repeating patterns, we even made a butterfly dance. We have really enjoyed watching and learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly.

In Nursery we have been planting potatoes and sunflowers.  We are learning what plants need to grow and how to look after them. We need to give them lots of water to help them grow.  

EYFS and KS1 'Washing the Feet' Collective Worship Service, by Mrs Andrews

Today we learnt about Maundy Thursday and why Jesus washed the feet of his disciples.  Mr Whelan and Mr Wood washed 12 children’s feet to show us how we can show kindness to other people, just like Jesus did.

Stations of the Cross Service - April 2022, by Mrs Cavill

This morning Reverend Anne and Father Darren came to school to watch and take part in our Stations of the cross service. Children from each year group read a reading and a prayer for eac station. Reverend Anne and Father Darren lit a Paschal candle to remind us that Jesus was resurrected on Easter Sunday. He gave His life to save us all. We wish you all a Happy Easter.

We walked to St. Peter's Church and learnt why Christians celebrate Lent. Lent is the period of six weeks (40 days not including Sundays) leading up to Easter, it is the most important festival in the Christian calendar. We sang songs about God and said thank you to him through our prayers. 

Chinese New Year in Nursery, by Mrs Andrews

We have been learning about the Chinese New Year celebration. We looked at where China was on the map and cooked some Chinese noodles. We used chopstick to eat our noodles which was lots of funny! We made a big dragon’s head and did a dragon dance. We wrote some Chinese numbers in red sand. Did you know 'red' is a very important colour to Chinese people, it is considered to be a lucky colour. 2022 is the year of the tiger, we dressed up like a tiger. We had great fun learning all about the Chinese New Year!

We are reading the story 'The Train Ride' by June Crebbin.  In this story the characters go on a train journey and see lots of different things along the way. The train goes over a bridge so we have been making our own bridges.

This term with have become much more independent at getting ready for PE. We have also been practising our climbing skills and thinking about different ways to travel along the equipment. 

Nursery's Walk to the Postbox, by Mrs Andrews

We all went on a walk to the local postbox to post a letter to Father Christmas.  We looked at all the things we could see on the way. We saw different houses, lots of vehicles and we even saw a real-life postman delivering letters! We hope Father Christmas likes reading our letters!

We had lots of fun learning in the snow. We made snowballs, compared our footprints and changed the colour of the snow with the water sprayers. We made patterns in the snow and made snow angels. We are so looking forward to the next time it snows!!
