3H in Blackpool! Our coastlines trip 20.05.22, by Miss Healey

Date: 23rd May 2022 @ 9:49am

We had such a wonderful time in Blackpool! We saw so many underwater creatures that inhabit our coastlines. We learnt a cool trick where if the glass was cold to touch that meant the animals lived in our UK waters, if it was slightly warmer, they didn't. It was very interesting comparing these animals' features. We found Phoenix the sea turtle and learnt that despite being 24 stone, she was just a baby! (A 22 year old baby because sea turtles can live to over a hundred years old!) We then went out to the beach, we saw some of the tourist attractions and other things that bbring people to the coast. We found loads of cool seashells and brought them back to school, then we watched as the tide came in. We had so much fun!

Our completed frog life cycle! Year 3, by Miss Healey

Date: 26th Apr 2022 @ 4:00pm

Last half term we began our frog life cycle with putting frogspawn in our pond and keeping some in our classroom to observe over the next few weeks. We noted lots of changes and watched as our frogspawn became tadpoles, then froglets with hind legs, fore legs and finally a distinguished head. Once we came back after the Easter holidays, we found the tails of our froglets had disappeared and our tiny little frogs were sat on the rocks out of the water breathing air! We then went to our pond, placing them gently back in their natural habitat. Hopefully we will get new frogspawn next Spring to fully complete our cycle. Take a look at our little frogs!

Chester Romans Trip 3H 11.03.2022, by Miss Healey

Date: 18th Mar 2022 @ 2:07pm

We had a fantastic time in Chester. We looked at real Roman artefacts and lots of museum galleries. We had a workshop where we got to act out and find out lots of things as well as dress up like the people of that time! We even got to meet a Roman soldier! We marched around the streets of Chester with him dressed as Roman soldiers. We went to the real Roman amphitheatre in Chester and practised some army drills where we saw and recreated the Roman army's battle strategies!

Geography biome fieldwork 3H, by Miss Healey

Date: 26th Jan 2022 @ 4:11pm

This half term we have been looking at climates and biomes of the world. This week we looked at our temperate climate and our deciduous forest biome. We looked at the deciduous trees (trees that change colour and lose their leaves based on the season) in our school grounds. We also looked at the signs we have for the flora (plant life) and fauna (animal life) and thought of reasons we may not have been able to spot many of these. We decided upon the weather, most of the animals would be hibernating this time of year and the plants will begin to grow in the Spring/Summer time - we linked this back to our climate being temperate. We did make sure we walked super quietly though and we managed to spot a few birds native to our climate! Take a look at some of our pictures.

Observing changes in our pond 3H 23.03.2021, by Miss Healey

We went up the Woodland Walk to see our pond and frogspawn. We were very excited to find the frogspawn had changed! It has become wiggling tadpoles inside the frogspawn jelly. We drew a labelled diagram in our Science books and wrote about the changes we have observed over the last two weeks.

Delivering frogspawn to our pond! 3H 09.03.2021, by Miss Healey

Date: 9th Mar 2021 @ 2:33pm

Our science topic this half term is pond life and frog life cycles. We are very fortunate to have had a beautiful peaceful pond put into our school grounds recently. As it is such a new pond, there is no frogspawn in our pond yet. Luckily, Miss Healey lives near lots of small ponds that are teeming with frogspawn so she brought some in for us to put in our school pond! We visited during our Science lesson with clipboards and wrote down all the wonderful reasons a frog would want to live here and have their frogspawn here in the future. We then carefully released the frogspawn to their new home!

The Hallé is an English symphony orchestra based in Manchester and we were lucky enough to have a fantastic visit from them.
