Year 6H 2019 - 2020
Welcome to 6H
Welcome back to the first half of the Spring Term
This will be an extremely busy half-term for all of the children in Year 6!
Over the course of this half term the children will be working extremely hard in all areas of the curriculum.
R.E. - This half term, we begin by focussing on a topic called 'Why is the Exodus such a significant event in Jewish and Christian history?'. The children will explore how Christianity is rooted in Judaism and how Jesus celebrated the Passover.
The Christian Value we will explore is 'perseverance'.
English - We will be focussing on different genres of writing where the children have the opportunity to edit and redraft their work; ensuring each piece of writing shows their true potential.
We will begin by exploring stories from other cultures. We will be writing and performing our own playscripts based on one of Sinbad's voyages.
Maths - We have split the year group up into smaller groups so that we can focus on the children's strengths and weaknesses and extend their learning accordingly. In doing this, the children's confidence will increase and they will be able to apply this knowledge in all contexts. We begin with looking at fractions, decimals and percentages.
Science – Our topic for the whole term is ‘Animals and Humans.' For the second half term, we will be learning about living things and their habitats.
We will carry out lots of investigations to enhance our learning.
History - Our focus is ‘Why should we thank the Ancient Greeks?’ We are hoping that we can visit Touchstones to bring the topic to life.
As always, if you have any questions about Year 6 come and speak to one of the teachers.
