Owl Visit, by Miss Kelly

This week we had some very special visitors! 

After learning all about Owl Babies and nocturnal animals the children had a special visit from a range of different owls, including barn owls and burrowing owls. The owls enjoyed flying around our hall, eating their food and even sitting on top of the climbing frame! The children were also able to hold one of the owls, take a look at the photos.

4J's Class Assembly was all about their Linking Network with Hopwood Community. It explored the idea of indetify and friendship amongst different cultures and generations with the message that you should love your neighbour. 

Jodrell Bank Trip - Year 5 16.11.22, by Miss Healey

We had the most amazing time at Jodrell Bank! We saw some fascinating things and explored space in a brilliant virtual reality experience. We learnt lots of interesting facts, made a rocket, fire-tornado and a marshmallow man explode! Have a look :)

Bird Feeders, by Miss Kelly

This week we have been learning all about Owl Babies, in the story the mother owl leaves her babies to go hunting, we now know that this means finding other animals to eat! We decided we would make some bird feeders to hang from our trees and feed the brids in our outdoor area. First we had to use our fine motor strength to push the seeds into the apple, we then attached two twigs to the apple for the birds to perch on and hung them from the trees. 

Year 6 - Science - Physics unit - Light, by Miss Hulse

Today, Year 6 used the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them.

We thought about:
What happens to the shadow when the torch is closer to the object?
What happens to the shadow when the torch is further away from the object?

4J's Poetry Recital, by Mr Jolly

Today, we learnt our poems, that we created earlier in the unit, off by heart and then performed them. We could either choose our Haiku or Tanka about bonfire night or our Cinquain about Armistice Day.

A Haiku is a Japanese poem about nature with 3 lines and a syllable pattern of 5,7,5. A Tanka is a reply to somebodies Haiku. It adds two extra lines with 7 syllables in each of those. A Cinquain is a 5 lined poem, oriignating in France, with a syllable pattern of 2,4,6,8,2. 

Year One Legoland Trip, by Mrs Anderson

Last Wednesday we went on our trip to Legoland. We took part in a Spinning Top workshop where we created spinning tops and launchers to make our spinners spin for as long as possible! We went on the rides at Legoland before exploring the different activities that we could do there. We all had such a fun day!

Moving Figures – Lowry

Year 6 visited The Lowry in Salford to look at the collection of Laurence Stephen Lowry’s work. This provided the children with a critical and curatorial analysis of his work and the children were able to focus on moving figures.

What a fanatastic day we had yesterday at M6 Theatre. We met many new friends from our Linking school in Heywood and watched a brilliant play called "Sunflowers and Sheds." We played drama games and thought about how we could improve the world. We even got to talk to the actors afterwards and ask them questions.

What was life like for children during WW2?

Year 6 visited The Imperial War Museum North in Salford to learn more about what life was like during WWI and WWII. The children focussed on the impact of war for children and how the effects changed lives.

Where does all of our stuff come from?

We went on a walk of our extended local area, thinking about products and how they are produced locally. We thought about the impact of different factories, bakeries and shops etc and how this has an impact on our local area.

Cross Country Competition, by Miss Kyte

Before half term six children from Years Five and Six represented St Peters Church of England Primary School in a cross country event at Fallinge Park High school. The event consisted of lots of primary schools from the Rochdale borough and was a mix of both boys and girls races. The children each ran 2 kilometers on a track that had been set up on Fallinge Park school field. Despite the cold and windy conditions, each pupil performed excellently and they all confidently completed the cross country run within the alloted time. Well done!

Black History Month - Year 5, by Miss Healey

We looked at Black musicians this year as part of our Black History Month studies. Year 5 was given the theme of rappers, we chose Run DMC's - "It's like that" as our focus song. We learnt the words and the social relevancies of the lyrics, then created a dance-off style music video, putting our own spin on the official music video. We hope you love it as much as we do! :)

Pete the Cat by Eric Litwin in Nursery, by Mrs Andrews

In nursery we have been bringing the book 'Pete the Cat and his White Shoes' by Eric Litwin to life.  We have been acting out the story, making playdough cats, singing cat number songs, painting pictures of cats and creating a story map. We even made up own story called 'Dot the Dog and her white socks' who stepped in oranges and bananas. We talked about pets and shared pictures of our pets that live in our house.  We have had an amazing first half term in our new nursery class.

Final St Peter's Church Visit, by Miss Healey

On Wednesday 12th October, Year 5 and 6 were fortunate enough to go to the final 'Thanksgiving' service of our local Church. This was a very emotional service where we sang, reminisced and read out poetry about all the wonderful times our school and the Church have worked together.

We are now ready to perform our dance next lesson, we are super excited!

Year 6 had a fantastic time visiting the Crucial Crew Experience in Rochdale. The children had a fun-filled afternoon learning about how they can keep themselves safe, help others and help to make our local community a safer place in which to live.
