We had a beautiful carol concert this morning, with all the children singing a mixture of traditional carols. This reminded us of the true meaning of Christmas. 

Manchester United Player Led Competition, by Miss Kyte

Last week, seven Year Five and Six pupils were chosen to represent St Peters at a football tournament held by Manchester United Academy. The tournament was player led meaning that the team had to manage themselves in terms of formation, substitutions and game strategy. The tournament also had a World Cup theme and the country we were chosen to represent was Brazil. The boys played a range of teams and all of our players were fantastic. Their determination, competitiveness and sportsmanship throughout the competitition was impeccable. Well done boys! 

Year 6 - Science - Physics unit - Light, by Miss Hulse

Today, Year 6 used the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them.

We thought about:
What happens to the shadow when the torch is closer to the object?
What happens to the shadow when the torch is further away from the object?

Moving Figures – Lowry

Year 6 visited The Lowry in Salford to look at the collection of Laurence Stephen Lowry’s work. This provided the children with a critical and curatorial analysis of his work and the children were able to focus on moving figures.

What was life like for children during WW2?

Year 6 visited The Imperial War Museum North in Salford to learn more about what life was like during WWI and WWII. The children focussed on the impact of war for children and how the effects changed lives.

Where does all of our stuff come from?

We went on a walk of our extended local area, thinking about products and how they are produced locally. We thought about the impact of different factories, bakeries and shops etc and how this has an impact on our local area.

Cross Country Competition, by Miss Kyte

Before half term six children from Years Five and Six represented St Peters Church of England Primary School in a cross country event at Fallinge Park High school. The event consisted of lots of primary schools from the Rochdale borough and was a mix of both boys and girls races. The children each ran 2 kilometers on a track that had been set up on Fallinge Park school field. Despite the cold and windy conditions, each pupil performed excellently and they all confidently completed the cross country run within the alloted time. Well done!

Year 6 had a fantastic time visiting the Crucial Crew Experience in Rochdale. The children had a fun-filled afternoon learning about how they can keep themselves safe, help others and help to make our local community a safer place in which to live.

In celebration of our Year 6's time at St Peter’s Church of England Primary School, we arranged for the children of Year 6 to attend a Leaver’s Service at Manchester Cathedral. It was a great morning with fun had by all. 

EYFS and KS1 'Washing the Feet' Collective Worship Service, by Mrs Andrews

Today we learnt about Maundy Thursday and why Jesus washed the feet of his disciples.  Mr Whelan and Mr Wood washed 12 children’s feet to show us how we can show kindness to other people, just like Jesus did.

Stations of the Cross Service - April 2022, by Mrs Cavill

This morning Reverend Anne and Father Darren came to school to watch and take part in our Stations of the cross service. Children from each year group read a reading and a prayer for eac station. Reverend Anne and Father Darren lit a Paschal candle to remind us that Jesus was resurrected on Easter Sunday. He gave His life to save us all. We wish you all a Happy Easter.

Year 6 have had a fantastic week joining in with all the Easter celebrations that have been happening in school. We took part in the KS2 Easter Egg challenge, were pupils decorated a hardboiled egg into some fantastic designs! We also had the opportunity to hold the chicks in the school hall – they were so cute!

Year 6 had a fantastic time on their residential trip at PGL, the children will have a fun-filled learning experience that stretched over three days. This included many different adventurous activities which provided the children with memories that will last a lifetime!

Yesterday, Year 6 visited the IWMN. The children had a fantastic time learning about how war affected the lives of many people from all nationalities. The children were lucky enough to speak to veterans and learn from first hand experiences.

Earth Day is an annual event on the 22nd April, it demonstrates the support for environmental protection.
Year 6 sent some time reflecting upon the day, creating prayers and posters about how we can protect the Earth. 

Year 6 - The Easter Story - March 2021, by Miss Hulse

Easter is a story of hope.
Easter tells us that, however bad our situation might appear to be, there is a way forward, even if we can’t see it right now.
Today, the year 6 children reflected upon 'Where might our hope come from?'
They completed art work based upon the Easter story, and produced art work using medium of their own choice and in their own style.

Today, year 6 used all of their sewing skills, that they have been learning over the last couple of weeks, to produce their final slipper design.
