Christmas 4C- December 2021, by Mrs Cavill

Date: 17th Dec 2021 @ 4:00pm

What a busy last week we have had. We have done lots of making this week at the same time as finishing off some curriculum areas. We have made calendars, cards, jumping toys and decorations. We have watched a Pantomime and had a Fantastic Party Day. Santa was very busy this year but he still found time to drop us all a present each.

Thank you children for all your hard work this term. Have a safe and Happy holiday and I will see you in 2022.

Owls in Reception!, by Miss Kelly

Date: 17th Dec 2021 @ 8:24am

In Literacy we have been learning all about Nocturnal animals. We first focussed on the 'Owl Babies' story - written by Martin Waddell. We then moved onto a non-fiction book 'Night Animals'.

The children have been learning new vocabulary throughout this cross curricular learning such as 'Nocturnal'. Chris from Owl Aventures was super impressed when the children were able to re-call some facts and information all about Owls.

We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Owls and watching them fly around the hall!

Date: 30th Nov 2021 @ 8:41am

Today we went on a snowy walk! We were so excited to see the snow and we decided to wrap up warm and explore!

This half term we have been learning all about seasons and exploring the signs of autum, we were shocked to see some signs of winter appearing early! We discussed how some animals find this weather too cold, therefore they hiberanate!

The children loved exploring our snowy outdoor area and we all enjoyed the 'crunch' of the fresh snow under our feet!

4J visit M6 Theatre, by Mr Jolly

Date: 16th Nov 2021 @ 3:45pm

Today, Tuesday 16th November, 4J visited M6 Theatre to have their first linking schools meeting with St Joseph’s (Heywood). First, they were split into two groups, cuckoos and hedgehogs. In these groups, they then met a randomly assigned partner to work with throughout the day. After the introductions and some games, the two groups came together and watched a production called Mavis Sparkles.

It was the story of a cleaner with an extraordinary story to tell. Mavis was on a journey north to see nature’s biggest light show with her own eyes. With a cleaning trolley full of secrets and surprises, and a little help from Spike the hedgehog, Mavis moved ever closer to making her dream come true. It featured a heart-warming mix of illusion, animation and captivating performance. This life-affirming production inspired us all to think about being brave, dust away doubts and reach for the stars!

After lunch, they were split into their two groups and worked on freeze framing feelings, some of which were experienced during the performance. The afternoon concluded with a group freeze frame of people’s wishes for the world including: ending homelessness, being kinder to the environment and stopping violence.

They were extremely well behaved and I know 4J are looking forward to meeting Class 9 again both at St Peter’s and when visiting St Joseph’s at some point in the Spring term.

We read the story 'Pete the Cat and his White Shoes' by Eric Litwin.  In this story Pete steps in different fruits and his new shoes turn the colour of the fruit.  In Nursery we made a fruit salad using plums, kiwis, grapes and blueberries.  We then made up our own story of 'Pete the Cat' using these fruits. We also enjoyed eating the delicious fruit salad!!
