Year 3N 2016 - 2017
Welcome back to school for the second Spring half term
Year 3 is a very important, and busy, year when children become part of the Juniors and really improve on all their skills. We have some brilliant themes to explore and fantastic facts to discover, as well as becoming confident readers, writers and mathematicians.
Welcome back, we have a busy, fun half term planned!
In Maths, we will be focusing on: place value, measures and data and fractions. We are also concentrating on mental addition and subtraction, moving on to written methods as these skills are vitally important.
We will be continuing to focus on Harry Potter for this next half term. We will be spending the first three weeks looking at play scripts and then moving on to instructions. We will also be continuing to look at grammar, as we need to improve our understanding of completing and punctuating sentences.
In Science, Year 3 will be focusing on Forces and Magnets and will even create their own magnet! Our History topic will see us answering the question – ‘How much did the Ancient Egyptians achieve?’ We have a fun trip to Touchstones planned where we will enjoy learning more about the Ancient Egyptians. We have an interesting half term ahead and I look forward to working with your children.
In History, we are learning about Ancient Egypt! We will learn about the achievements of the ancient Egyptians: such as irrigation, the building of the pyramids and their writing.
In DT we will be looking at packaging, focusing on seaside picnics. We will also be looking at designing healthy food which could be put inside the packaging.
In French, we will be learning about: manners, numbers, classroom objects and how to greet each other.
Computing will see us become communicators! We will be using emails to communicate with our partner and creating a presentation on what we are learning about in class. We will then be presenting our presentations to the class; we will also be looking at using video conferencing.
Our focus in R.E. will be ‘Rules for Living’. This unit will see us looking closely at the Ten Commandments and how they link with our modern laws. We will also be discussing the difference between rules and laws.
Our PE days are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this term, with Wednesday being our outdoor PE session. We recommend that your child has their PE kit in school all week and brings it home at the weekend. Please also note that children should wear plain, black shorts for all P.E. sessions.
PE lessons will see us being creative game makers, mechanical machines and mover travellers!
Reading and Homework
We hope you are still enjoying the new reading books that your child has brought home. The books are part of a brand new reading scheme which we think the children are going to love. Please try to read with your child for a short time every night and sign their reading record. Reading books will be changed weekly and must be in school every day!
Year 3 homework consists of:
- weekly spellings, which are tested on a Friday
- a Learning Log Challenge to be completed half termly as a project.
- a multiplication test on a Tuesday called Mad Minutes!
Here are a list of websites for pupils to practise their Maths and English skills
We appreciate your support in enabling your children to complete these important tasks.
If you do have any queries, please do not hesitate to make an appointment.
