Year 3B 2017 - 2018

Miss Ball

Welcome back to school for Summer Term!

Year 3 is a very important, and busy, year when children become part of the Juniors and really improve on all their skills. We have some brilliant themes to explore and fantastic facts to discover, as well as becoming confident readers, writers and mathematicians.

This half-term

Wecome back, we have a busy, fun half term planned!

In Maths, we will be learning about shape, fractions, addition, multiplication, division and place value. Also we will be consolidating our learning in preparation for Year 4.

This second half of the Summer Term, we will be focusing on non-fiction texts and ending with poetry.  We will be writing our own recounts, non-chronological reports and poems. We will be also focusing on fronted adverbials and using trickier conjunctions, ready for Year 4.

In Science, Year 3 will be focusing on Animals including Humans.  We will be looking at healthy eating and what makes a balanced diet. Then moving onto learning about human and animal skeletons.

Our Geography topic will see us answering the question – ‘Do you like to be beside the seaside?’ We would appreciate any pictures of you at the seaside we can add to our display within the classroom.

In DT we will be continuing to look at packaging, focusing on seaside picnics. We will also be looking at designing healthy food which could be put inside the packaging.

In French, we will be learning about: clothes, numbers, classroom objects and time.

Computing will see us become bug fixers! We will be fixing problems in programmes and looking at algorithms!

We will be looking into ‘rules for living’ and the Lord’s Prayer in R.E.

PE lessons will see us being creative game makers, mechanical machines and mover travellers!

Our PE days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday this term, with Wednesday being our outdoor PE session. We recommend that your child has their PE kit in school all week and brings it home at the weekend. Please also note that children should wear plain, black shorts for all P.E. sessions. It is vital that your child has their kit with them to participate in lessons safely.

Reading and Homework

We hope you are still enjoying the new reading books that your child has brought home. Please try to read with your child for a short time every night and sign their reading record. Reading books will be changed weekly and must be in school every day!

Year 3 homework consists of:

  • weekly spellings, which are tested on a Friday
  • a piece for your homework book, which focuses on skills learnt this week and looks forward to next week's learning
  • a computer based homework
  • a multiplication test

Problem-solving resources:

Free maths apps:

  • Sushi monster
  • Math monsters
  • Math flash cards
  • Doodle Maths

Here are some examples of workbooks which can be used to support your children's learning at home:

We appreciate your ongoing support in enabling your children to complete these important tasks.
